Hygiene
At Magna Tattoo Studio, we want each and every client to know they are in the safest (and cleanest) hands possible.
Hygiene practises are paramount to ensure a professional and safe tattoo experience. We take every precaution we can to make certain the well-being of our clients and eliminate any unnecessary risks.
Here is how we have created the safest tattoo environment possible.
-
All artists at Magna Tattoo Studio are trained at the highest possible standard for maintaining a sanitary work environment, this includes, safe handling of blood borne pathogens, cross contamination, sterilisation procedures and risk management. The New Zealand tattooing policies are not thorough or specific enough, therefore we have based our hygiene standards on North American policies. Blood borne pathogens (BBP) certificates are held by everyone on our team and are updated and re-assessed annually.
-
Our studio is sanitised daily, our floors are cleaned with hospital grade disinfectant, along with any surfaces that a client or artist has come into contact with, this includes tables, chairs, even doorhandles. This is carried out by a member of our staff trained in the specifics of cleaning a tattoo studio, this happens each day before an artist or client enters Magna.
-
Full PPE gear (personal protective equipment) is worn by every artist during any tattooing session, this includes nitrile gloves, arm sleeves and aprons. - These all minimise the risk of coming into contact with, and reduces the chance of cross contamination, of blood plasma, bacteria or pathogens that could result in infection or harm to the artist and client. PPE gear is also worn during any cleaning and sterilising of the studio or the equipment.
-
We use as much disposable equipment as possible. All of our ink cups, needle cartridges, gloves, wipes, furniture coverings, rinse cups and machine bags are single use and disposed of into authorised medical waste bins. Our large waste bin is collected weekly via a specialist medical waste removal company. Other non-disposable equipment that is used during your tattoo session (ie: furniture, tattoo machines etc) are thoroughly covered before your tattoo appointment and are meticulously cleaned afterwards.
-
The attachment of the tattoo machine that comes into contact with clients is known as the "Grip". These grips are removed from the tattoo machine after each client and go through a lengthy process of sterilisation. This includes; cleaning in a dictated space to lower cross contamination, individually bagged and processed through our autoclave. Our autoclave is a class B autoclave, these are regarded as the best and most effective for sterilising tattoo equipment. Our autoclave is maintained and tested annually.
-
We use a single use needle cartridge system, these drastically lower the potential of cross contamination. These are a closed housing for the tattoo needle and are individually sterilised during manufacturing. We open each needle cartridge on the day of tattooing, once opened, used or not, the tattoo cartridge is disposed of in a sharps container which are then taken away and disposed of via a specialised medical waste removal company.
No procedure like tattooing is completely risk free, but at Magna we have taken practical proven solutions to minimise any risks associated with the process. Our aim is to create the safest and most professional environment possible for you the client and us the artists.
Please feel free to reach out anytime if you have any questions or concerns regarding your tattoo appointment or our procedures, we will happily answer any and all of your questions!
